Personal statement
I landed in this planet in Acapulco, Guerrero, México.
Since I can remember, I liked science in general and Astronomy in particular. I was the type of kid with a cardboard telescope by the window and a chemistry set under the bed.
I studied Physics at UNAM and got my PhD in the U.S.
I’ve been fortunate as I work in what I like most. Besides Astronomy, I love teaching and outreach.
I believe that these two activities are very important to contribute to form a society of critic, creative and thinking persons, as opposed to a collection of soulless administrators, that the globalized, neoliberal, current model seems to prefer.
It is one of my deepest desires that someday our politicians will realize that our most precious national asset is not our natural resources, our capacity to attract foreign investments, or the skill of our people to learn English and eat hamburgers, but rather our ability to come with innovative ideas that enrich our culture and everyday lives.
